The Providence Northern got started at Hathaway Street in Providence, RI in 1996. That was a large layout, consuming over 3,600 sq. feet of space. The space gave us room to explore a lot of things, although designing around the columns in the room also presented some challenges. The layout was originally designed to run on analog direct current (DC), the same way model trains have run since they were first introduced in the 1800s. The layout was later converted to run on both DC and the more modern Digital Command and Control (DCC). This gallery contains some of the photos from that layout.
